01 Getting started
Install
Open the downloaded DMG, drag Aloft.app to your Applications folder, then double-click to launch.
Grant Accessibility access
On first launch Aloft asks for Accessibility permission — this is how the overlay finds your text cursor. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable Aloft.
Invoke the overlay
Press ⌘⇧V anywhere you're typing. The overlay appears at your cursor. Navigate with ↑↓ or jk, peek with Space, paste with Return (or copy if Auto-paste on Enter is off), dismiss with Esc.
Change your hotkey
Open Aloft → Settings → General and click the hotkey recorder to set any combination you prefer.
02 Trial & Pro license
How activation works
After purchasing, Creem emails you a license key. You enter it once in Aloft to unlock Pro — it keeps working offline afterward.
Find your key
Check your inbox for the purchase email from Creem. It contains a license key in the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
Enter it in Aloft
Open Aloft → Settings → License, click Enter License Key, paste your key, and click Activate. Aloft confirms it online once, then runs offline.
Verify activation
Back in Aloft → Settings → License it should read "Pro · Licensed". All Pro features are now unlocked.
Didn't receive the license email?
Check your spam folder first. If it's not there, use the customer-portal link in your Creem receipt to retrieve your license key, or send us a message with your order number and we'll sort it out.
Using Aloft on more than one Mac?
Your Pro license covers up to three Macs at the same time. Install Aloft on each one and activate it with the same license key — every Mac uses one of your three activation slots. Moving to a new Mac or replacing an old one? On a Mac you no longer use, open Aloft → Settings → License and click Deactivate this Mac to free a slot, then activate the new one.
03 Frequently asked questions
How does the free trial work?
When you first install Aloft, the full Pro tier is unlocked for 30 days. No card required. When the trial ends, the app switches to the Free tier — nothing is deleted, you just lose access to the Pro-only features (snippets, transforms, auto-categories, etc.). Buy a license at any time to get them back.
What happens to my history after the trial?
Nothing is deleted when you move to the Free tier — your history is still there. How long unsaved clips are kept is a setting you control, not a tier limit: choose anything from a day to a year in Settings ▸ General, or switch cleanup off entirely to keep everything. Aloft never removes anything without asking you first, and saved items are never removed.
Does Aloft send my clipboard to a server?
No. There is no server that receives clipboard content. Everything is stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/Aloft/. Update checks, Pro licensing and link previews can contact their respective providers. Link previews fetch page metadata for copied URLs. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
Aloft isn't appearing at my cursor — it's showing in the corner.
Some apps don't expose a caret position through the Accessibility API (certain terminal emulators and Electron apps are the common culprits). In those cases Aloft falls back to positioning near your mouse cursor. This is expected behaviour, not a bug. If you're seeing it somewhere unexpected, let us know which app — we track these and improve the detection over time.
Aloft isn't capturing from a specific app.
Check Settings → Privacy: the app might be on your excluded-apps list. If it's not, and the app uses a custom secure text field, macOS may prevent clipboard monitoring in that context by design (this is the same mechanism that blocks capture from password managers).
Will future updates be free?
All v1.x updates are free for Pro owners — delivered silently via Sparkle. A future v2.0 will be a new paid release, with a discount for v1 Pro owners. The Free tier updates are always free.
Where does Aloft store my data?
Everything is in ~/Library/Application Support/Aloft/. You can back it up, inspect it, or delete it at any time. Trashing the folder resets the app to a clean state.
Does Aloft work on macOS 14 Sonoma?
No. Aloft requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later. This lets us build on the latest SwiftUI and platform APIs without carrying legacy workarounds.
