RELEASE HISTORY — ALOFT
Every release, in reverse order. Aloft versions follow semver — all v1.x updates are free for Pro owners.
01 v1.2.2 — 14 October 2026 · Safer saves, more reliable pasting
Privacy and security
- Clipboard capture diagnostics no longer include copied text, filenames or file paths.
- HTML exports display clip text and tags literally, including special characters and text that looks like HTML.
More dependable saved data
- Fixed snippet edits being discarded and Undo losing the scalable artwork in vector clips.
- If Aloft cannot open your saved data, it now offers Retry or Quit without resetting your library.
- Save failures now offer a retry and retain pending changes in memory. Keep Aloft open until saving succeeds; quitting or restarting asks you to resolve a failed save first.
- Import feedback distinguishes saved items from changes still waiting to be saved. Migration from older data formats preserves its source on failure and can retry without duplicating existing items.
Easier everyday use
- More reliable paste targeting and clearer feedback when a paste cannot proceed. Closing or reopening the overlay cancels outdated delayed paste actions.
- Search filters from the first character, even when the search field starts hidden.
- Simpler display settings, clearer Welcome and keyboard guidance, and more dependable access to Settings. Overlay controls remain usable at compact sizes.
02 v1.2.1 — 27 July 2026 · Vector artwork stays sharp
Fixed
- Vector artwork pastes sharp again — copying a graphic from a drawing app (Affinity, Illustrator, Sketch) kept only a flattened picture of it, so pasting it back came out pixelated no matter how it was scaled. Aloft now also keeps the scalable version the app puts on the clipboard and hands that to apps which accept it — Keynote, for example — so the paste stays crisp at any size. Apps that only take pictures still get the picture, exactly as before.
- A graphic copied from a drawing app now shows that app's name as its source, instead of being labelled "Screenshot".
Worth knowing
- Pasting one of these vector clips into Finder won't create a file. Finder can only paste a file, and Aloft deliberately offers the sharp artwork instead — offering a file as well would let some apps quietly paste the flattened picture again. Ordinary image clips still paste into Finder as before.
03 v1.2.0 — 19 July 2026 · History that tidies itself
New
- Time-based retention replaces the item cap — Settings now asks how long to keep unsaved items (a day to a year) instead of capping how many you keep. Nothing is deleted without your say-so: if you already have a history, Aloft asks first and shows the exact number of items involved — decline and cleanup stays off. Saved items are never removed.
- Automatically clean up old history — one switch in Settings turns age-based cleanup on or off. Off keeps everything.
- Clear History does more — alongside clearing by kind, you can now clear items older than a chosen age, and remove entries whose file no longer exists (counted live before you commit). Nothing is pre-selected, so opening the window and confirming deletes nothing until you choose something — and one ⌘Z undoes the whole batch.
- Shortening how long history is kept now asks first, and tells you exactly how many items it would remove.
Fixed
- An item on an unplugged drive or memory card now says Drive not connected instead of claiming the file was moved or deleted — and reconnecting the drive heals those entries without a restart.
- Undo no longer strips formatting from rich text when it restores it.
- Opening the overlay no longer checks the filesystem on the main thread, which could freeze Aloft when a network drive stopped responding.
- The footer no longer shows a fullness ring filling toward a limit that no longer exists — just an honest item count.
04 v1.1.0 — 15 July 2026 · Search everywhere
New
- Search everywhere (Pro) — one query now searches your History, Saved groups and Smart Lists at once, with the results grouped by where they live.
- Single-click to paste — switch it on straight from the overlay footer, beside the keep-open pin, or from the ⋯ menu.
Fixed
- Fixed a freeze that could hang Aloft while you scrolled a long clipboard history.
- Arrow-key navigation keeps the selected item in view again.
- Pasting a mixed selection of text and images now tells you what it actually pasted, instead of quietly dropping the rest.
- Search now says what it actually searched — and finding nothing no longer claims your history is empty.
- The upgrade window closes itself the moment you activate a license.
- The delete confirmation in Manage Groups no longer truncates its buttons.
05 v1.0.2 — 7 July 2026 · First public Sparkle release
New
- Built-in updates — Aloft now updates itself via Sparkle. Check any time from the Aloft menu; later releases arrive without a manual download.
Fixed
- The About pane no longer clips the license buttons.
- Screenshots are captured as inline image data again, rather than a file reference that could go stale.
